About Me
Hello! I'm Shira Dentz
I'm an award-winning writer, educator, researcher, and instructional designer with over a decade of learning professional experience. Before teaching, I was an Art Director for several years in a global advertising agency in NYC, where I worked primarily on entertainment accounts. As an Instructional Designer, I'm able to combine my skills and talents as an educator, graphic artist, and writer. I thrive on using creativity to advise and design the most effective learning solutions
One of my superpowers is creative writing, and I welcome opportunities to apply it to writing scenarios and video-scripts. As an educator, I've taught diverse K-12, college, and adult learners at all levels, in many different settings, and in all learning formats—in person, hybrid, and online. Additionally, I was an academic advisor for several years. This wide-ranging experience, together with my technical and multi-media skills, informs my approach to instructional design.
A lifelong learner, I hold an M.F.A. from the Iowa Writer's Workshop and a Ph.D. in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Utah. I'm an ongoing member of the Instructional Design and Online Learning (IDOL) Courses Academy and hold several instructional design-related certificates from Eduflow Academy.
Recently, I partnered with two organizations, Train On Powered by EdApp and Suicide is Different (SID) on a volunteer project to build microlearning courses about suicide prevention. My current projects include script writing for animated videos on teaching approaches in the inclusive classroom for an e-Learning course and college course design for distance learning. I'm particularly passionate about the arts and wellness including public health, the environment, and social equity.
Let's collaborate!
